Dorico 6 just updated, and I went straight in to test a couple of things. Let me start by saying they’ve done a great job—perfection is divine, after all, so hats off to the team—but I was hoping some previously reported issues had been fixed.
You can see one of them in the screenshot: to me, it’s a bug with the guides. Here’s what I mean—if the “play” marker lands exactly at the end of a system, Dorico places it beyond the margin instead of in the new system. Sure, you can hide it and rewrite it manually, but that defeats the purpose of automation.
You just can’t trust the guide with automatic “play” markers—it even overflows the margin in the parts.
Second point: the “a2” in condensation. In standard publishing practice, it only appears after the two instruments have previously played separately (even if only for a single note). If they remain in unison—even after a rest, or worse, after a system break—there’s no need to show “a2” again. Again, yes, you can hide it, but once more: goodbye automation.
Thanks
