Bug - Cello character used for left-hand Thumb guitar fingering

Greetings!

At some point in the last several weeks, my left-hand thumb (t) fingering indication has changed from a “t” to a strange character (see attached picture). This happens when I open old projects that were fine, as well as new projects. I am using the default font for the “Fingering Font” (“Bravura”). Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom Kearney

I don’t know about guitarists, but that character is familiar to any cellist as ‘thumb’.

Hmmm… that’s interesting! But not very helpful for a guitarist (ha ha!).

Maybe there’s a bug (I’m running the latest Dorico 5 Pro Version 5.1.10.2081, on Windows 11) that is co-mingling Cello and Guitar? I know it used to work at some point in the recent past!

I also installed the “Metrico” font several weeks ago (to get a “swing” legend). Maybe that’s causing problems?

Tom

I’ve been doing some testing:

  • un-installed “Metrico” - no change.
  • created a single-cello project - get cello thumb glyph
  • created a single guitar project - get cello thumb glyph
  • created a test with Dorico Pro 4 - added a cello and a guitar - it works as expected:

So, it looks like something is broken in Dorico 5 Pro Version 5.1.10.2081

I would appreciate it if someone could create a tiny test project with a guitar, and test the left-hand fingering…

Tom

One more data point: I found a printout from January 9, 2024, which has the correct “T” for the thumb… so it seems that the 5.1.10 update on January 18 has the problem.

Tom

Thanks for reporting this, Tom. I confirm the problem, and we’ll take care of this as soon as possible.

Thank you, Daniel!

One of brothers recently had open-heart surgery (he’s doing well). I want to print out about ten transcriptions of solo guitar songs I’ve done in the past two years, and put them in a three-ring binder to send to him. He helped me learn some of these songs about fifty years ago, when I was just learning guitar.

I’m sure he’ll enjoy playing from the professional-looking Dorico printouts! By the way, I learned yesterday how to set the margins for left and right sides, so the holes don’t occlude the staffs! Wonderful!

Thanks again,
Tom

Update to 5.1.20: it looks as if @dspreadbury has once again kept his promise :pray:

Yes - and it works perfectly, as expected!

Daniel - 5.1.20 fixed those “cello thumbs” perfectly.

Thank you so much!

I’m printing scores for my brother right now.
