Perhaps the “snap” function is on? This only allows slicing/drawing/editing on the grid. By turning snap off, you can slice anywhere.
Or maybe its your curser? In preferences, you can tweak the curser a little. I always set the curser to be a little thinner than factory setting, so I get more precise accuracy. I believe you can add crosshairs too? I may be wrong though…
