[Bug] Nuendo not playing 4K (intencity pro 4K) properly

Hello,
4k video not playing properly (shrunk/cropped) on 4 K Monitors/progectors.
Kind Regards,
Mike

Exact resolution, codec and container?
Any dedicated playback device?

I’m using the Blackmagic DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K.
The video file is an H264 mp4 and an H264 mov. The resolution is 3840 x 2160.
My monitor says it’s receiving 3840 x 2160 but the image size is reduced.
The same files fill the screen perfectly when playing out via the same DeckLink 4k card when using Blackmagic Davinci Resolve and Blackmagic Media Express

This is how the 4k playback looks out of Nuendo 13 Dropbox

and this ia s 4k file out of Davinci resolve Dropbox

K. My 16:10 monitor definitely showed more of the 2160 than what you’re seeing. I wonder if it could have to do with the resolution of the receiving screen then. My 16:10 monitor is 1920:1200, not 4k, and the 3440x1440 had more black bars surrounding the image (I’ll double check tomorrow).

Do you have DNxHD installed? If so, have you tried that instead?

Confirmed here.

DNXHD behaves the same, not filling the screen.
This issue only occurs when playing the 4k video files in Nuendo and out through the Blackmagic card/cards.
4K looks great and fits my 4k screen out of Resolve and Media Express. Haven’t had a chance to try other software yet.

I do have the latest version of Nuendo and Blackmagic Desktop Video.

I have just retested N13 and found that the image is actually being cropped rather than being reduced in size when selecting 4k in the Video Player menu. Different settings result in different amounts of crop

Here are two different settings and how they crop. The dropbox links are to images of what I am seeing.

2160p 25 8 bit RGB 3840 x 2160 Dropbox

2160p 25 8 bit YUV 3840 x 2160 Dropbox

I have just tried the same file in ProTools on the same computer through the same DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K and it plays perfectly in 4K on the same 4K TV.

So far it seems it is only Nuendo that is incapable of successfully playing 4k files through my Blackmagic card,

This is in the Blackmagic menu right? Not Nuendo?

I see that too now… having had sleep and coffee…

That aspect ratio still fills the screen for me though, even if video is cropped. Is your window set to “internal” or “external”? I doubt it would or should make a difference but might be worth trying that as well.

In the studio setup / video devices menu there is the option of different devices.

I can choose between Onscreen Window or DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K.

On Choosing the DeckLink I get all the format options which you can see here. Dropbox

My 4K TV reports it receiving a 4k signal, but the image is cropped as you have seen.

again, it’s only out of Nuendo that this happens, other programs behave correctly,

4K looks so very nice on a TV through Blackmagic card. I find it much more accurate, reliable and smooth than using my RTX 3060Ti graphics card. I really hope this is an easy fix.

Here is the drop down menu for the Intenstity Pro 4K.Dropbox

Cheers,

I moved my reply from the other thread here:

Does it happen only on the Black Magic card?
Yes the BM card and other brands from what I’ve read of others experiences.

I have both the Intensity 4K and the decklink mini monitor 4k. It happens on both on all my windows 10/11 machines. Not sure about mac.
