Bug with expression maps when desactivating tracks

Hello everyone, I have a bug with cubase 15 when creating my template: If I deactivate tracks with expression maps in my template, whenever I create a project and reactivate the tracks, the expressions maps are not selected anymore.. !!! you can imagine with 50 more tracks how annoying this is…

I had this issue before with cubase 9 I think but it was solved… now it came back.. Could you check and see how it can be solved ?? is this the right place to report a bug ? thanks in advance..

if you want to check the bug:

1-Create some tracks
2- Assign to the tracks some expression map & verify an midi input is selected
3- right click on tracks & desactivate them
4-save project
5- close cubase
6- open cubase & load project
7-right click & activate track
8- pray for the expression map to be loaded most of the time it’s not selected anymore

Thanks in advance!

Dan

I have the same issue with Cubase 15. Was able to track down the issue though: my expression map filenames and expression map display names both had a dash “-“ in it.
As soon as I removed the dash character and re-applied the maps to the tracks, the setting persisted through disabling track → saving the project → re-opening Cubase → loading project → activating track .
It seems that expression maps dont like special characters in their names..

Thanks for the report Daniel, and for confirming Vitalijus (and welcome to the forum). We’ll investigate further.

I’m having the same issue. When enabling the track after re-opening the project, the track expression map defaults to “No Map”. I do not have any special characters in my expression map names. I have the most recent Cubase Windows update as of 2026-03-01, 15.0.10.

I have a 100+ track hybrid orchestral template with many expression maps. The template is saved with all tracks disabled to save on resources and keep things running smoothly while composing and I only enabled tracks that I’m using for the composition. However, this happens in project with very few tracks as well.

If I load up an older version of my template created with Cubase 14 in Cubase 15 and enable a track with an expression map, the expression map seems to be recalled correctly, but with my new template created with Cubase 15 (in Cubase 15) it does not.

Please prioritize this for a fix. I hope this information helps.
Thanks.

I spend a lot of time in this forum feeling glad I haven’t updated from 13 yet.

I tried to repro this with a simple project but couldn’t. Can you provide a repro steps or upload a project file that shows this issue?

thanks

I have been having issues with this as well. Template with hundreds of tracks. Sometimes when re-activating an Instrument track, the expression map (which was saved with the project) is just gone. I can go select it again from available expression maps, but no map is assigned to the track when I re-activate it.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Haven’t been able to track down what circumstances cause Cubase to lose the map on a deactivated track.
