On my girlfriend’s laptop Dorico uses the built-in speakers although headphones are plugged in (via audio jack, not a USB or BlueTooth device).
All other audio goes through the headphones.
Additional problem: She uses the ASIO4ALL driver (because the Steinberg driver does not yield any sound), and when we click to configure the driver, nothing appears. We believe this could be because normally there is a second (bigger) screen connected where Dorico runs, so we guess the device configuration window pops up somewhere we can’t see?
All this is more than frustrating currently. Dorico does not play nicely with the headphones as all other applications do without any intervention, and we seem to not be able to do anything to help the situation…
I have nothing to offer in terms of a solution, but concerning this part:
Assuming you are on Windows (because of the audio jack), can you see the device control panel window when pressing Alt+tab? If so, press Alt+tab and then tab again until the window is selected. Next, press Alt+Space+M (in that order). You should then be able to move the window on screen using the arrow keys, try different directions until something appears. When the window is on screen again, simply hit Enter or Esc.
Thanks for chiming in.
Currently she won’t let me try because her thirst for playing around with Dorico during our holiday is gone now (for some unknown reason…).
I fear Steinberg has just lost a potential customer. - And it breaks my heart because on the one hand I am an outspoken fan of Dorico, and when Dorico works she really loves it. On the other hand, Dorico (or the hardware of her laptop, or whatever) is putting stones in her way that she would never be able to solve by herself. I mean, nowadays regular Windows users almost never have anything to do with drivers, and if you are used to nice UIs, when you see the device config screen of ASIO4ALL for the first time you just want to give up. In her own words, “why should I have to deal with this?”
I totally understand that Dorico comes with an audio engine that can drive a whole audio studio, but for somebody who is just a hobbyist clarinet player who wants to put in some notes and is not an audio technician, there are some hurdles they just can’t take.
Steinberg, please try whatever you can to make this more accessible.
Hi @Estigy, maybe I can help you to get things going.
It’s rather unusual that the Steinberg driver does not work with you. Which one do you have installed, the Generic Low Latency ASIO driver or the new Steinberg Built-in ASIO driver?
Could you also please send a diagnostic report? Thanks
