Burn CD from Montage often fails, error message

Hi,
Sometimes they burn, sometimes they fail at random places ie Track-1 3% or 9% or 45% etc…always Track 1, always gives a “Failed to Burn” error.
I use the Test Burn feature so as not to burn coasters, still fail. Never know why. Especially because I’ve burned these montages before successfully.
It’s a new Pioneer (Bufallo) burner, but it also does this in my Asus burner.
[edit] I tried burning a DDP of the project, and it got further along in Track 2 before it failed. Hmmm…
Any ideas?
[Wavelab 12, Windows 11, USB3 burner from usb Hub]

Can you try connect to USB port without Hub and see if that works and check for security software or screensaver that start e.t.c

Thanks for this.

Try with another CD media brand.

Good call. I was using the bulk Verbatims and they failed consistantly, but the Plextors worked consistantly. Here’s the thing though, I have an old $20 Chinese usb2 burner from amazon that’s in the hub and it never fails to burn from Wavelab. It’s only the 2 “good” usb3 drives that fail randomly. But they work flawlessly in every other app.
I’ve been using Wavelab for 20yrs or so, and CD failure is a key feature of it.

@JACKnight Your statement is easy to make but in my opinion there’s no reliable evidence here. Surely the success / failure rate is rather a product of many moving parts including the software, the computer, the interface, the CD drive model and the choice of media. So it’s difficult to pin this down to any one element.

Did you consider that the failure rate over 20 years might be due to using a USB drive? (if that’s what you’ve always used). How about trying an internal CD drive instead?

Just thinking out loud here but I’ve always thought that it’s of paramount importance to establish a reliable combination of hardware, software and media and then stick to it and burn with that combination only. Why are you using 3 different drives and sometimes usb2, sometimes usb3? In my opinion, this doesn’t help… too many variables to draw any conclusions.

Opinions vary widely on what model burner is best for burning audio CDs. Modern burners are notoriously unreliable and no longer built to the rigorous standards of past models. But I see no reason why your Pioneer Buffalo burner shouldn’t do the job, although personally I wouldn’t use an external usb burner for burning CDs. I would guess that the issue is not this burner and not Wavelab. You might need to find the best media for that burner and then stick to it. Check your cables. Do not use a hub. Check that there’s not some element or behaviour in the OS or hardware which has a disruptive effect on the usb port. Do similar with other software installed. Some drivers and other software can have a detrimental effect on cd burnng behaviour with Wavelab.

Just for the record, I used to burn a lot of CDs using an internal Plextor drive, Taiyo Yuden CDs and Wavelab. It never failed.
