C-12 Pro: Modulation Automation on Track Issue

Shown above is one of my pad tracks that has only two automation lanes since it is a pretty wide angle sound that needs no panning or tweaks.

Since I sometimes prefer my VSTi chord bars to be separate (as seen in the screenshot), drawing modulation curves in the Key Editor for all of them is tedious - has to be done one at a time, then copy paste, etc. as needed.

I also like to not add any automation points on my track Volume lanes - I use Input Filter- PreGain instead: this frees me up to do on-the-fly subtle overall track volume adjustments in the Mix Console.

As expected, adding a CC Modulation lane and drawing in some dynamics to a track that already has a Volume lane - and in my case a virgin/with no automation - does nothing (neutralized by the Volume lane).

Any suggestions on what else to do so that modulation can be drawn into a track (not in the events)?

Thanks.

Hi Philip,

please open Project/Automation Panel (or F6 as the corresponding key command) and go to Settings. Check the box Reveal Parameter on Write.

If Write is activated Cubase will automatically create and display a separate automation track from now on.

Hope that helps!

I had already created a Modulation lane in the track, drew in a couple Bezier curves, but it go over-written by the static linear Volume automation line (no dynamic changes heard), so I deleted it.

Before I did so, I recorded that short segment in Write mode - or thought I did so as a test, but it didn’t change anything.

So what should I do?
Maybe I have no choice but to do it in-events…

The modulation wheel is not necessarily assigned to
specific parameters that modulate the sound. That depends on the individual instrument. Have you checked if the sound changes when you use the actual mod wheel on your keyboard?

Can you create a new instance of this instrument, activate the setting under F6, have write mode activated as well, press record and play some notes while fooling around with the mod wheel. Does it react like it is supposed to?
