hello - what was the upshot of this - I am seeing exactly the same behaviour when I launch an updated version of the DL assistant
I am on Mac and I am getting the same issues.

If it helps anyone I solved this particular issue by switching my default browser to Chrome (from Edge). Chrome displays a prompt to open a file that has been launched by SDA which you need to then allow. I suspect latest versions of Edge have default security settings to not allow files to be launched by other untrusted applications.
I now am on to the next issue 
This is still happening to me. I click on “sign in” and nothing happens at all, not even a browser window opens.
