So nothing has changed on my computer, no new plugins have been installed. But now Cubase just freezes on launch, when scanning VST3 plugins. Safe start without external plugins works, starting with default preferences also freezes when scanning VST3 plugins. Freeze = application becomes unresponsive and force quit is the only way out.
Screenshot is where it stalls every time. MacOS 14.8.2 (Sonoma), Apple Silicon native, no Rosetta.
What gives?
PS: FWIW, no issues with Logic, but that uses AU not VST3, of course.
OK, to answer my own question: It was the Baby Audio Humanoid plugin that caused it. Removing that one from the library seems to have fixed the problem.
So next question would be, how do I safely add it back?
I’m continuing this conversation by myself, maybe it’ll be useful for someone else.
I put the Humanoid plugin back in the library, and Cubase opens just fine. ChatGPT’s best guess is “corrupt plugin cache”, removing the plugin forced Cubase to rebuild the VST Cache.
For now, everything seems back to normal.
My guess would have been that the plugin needed to “phone home”. Maybe any of your actions allowed the plugin to contact the server it needed to contact and then continue functioning as if nothing happened.
Maybe you can contact the maker of the plugin in this regard.
Your guess is as good as mine, but I don’t think that’s it. I have Roland Cloud which needs to connect to the mothership with annoying frequency. But it doesn’t break Cubase.
