C14 - Alt + Shift Functionality Silently Removed? in Main Project Window

Cubase 14 has silently removed the ability to use Shift + Alt to perform batch functions in the Main Project Window. Why?

Things such as;

  • being able to batch change input / output routing for selected tracks
  • being able to batch change / load samplers or VST instruments
  • being able to batch load a plugin on inserts for selected tracks

In previous version of Cubase this was not a problem. To prove a point, here’s C13 and C14 performing the same task.

CUBASE 14

Please add this functionality back in, and STOP removing / changing / moving, functions without documenting it!

Hi, C14, Win 11 - all works ok here. I’ve just tested it. Shift+Alt for batch action of selected tracks in Project windows works fine.

Yes, still works for me on Win 11 as well.

Ok well that’s positive news at least!

I’m on Win 11 - something ins’t playing ball here. Trashed the preferences file, must be something not overwritten from updating? Yet to resolve it.

Works fine for me too. Win 11 23H2 - C14

I used to have a shortcut key conflict problem with windows keyboard language selection. The way to switch languages is Alt+Shift. It stopped the Cubase option from working.
There is an option to switch it off in Windows Language or Shortcut settings. Sorry, can’t remember where exactly.
Perhaps that is the problem?

I’ve found the problem! It’s related to Profiles.

Seems like profiles created on a previous version don’t carry over correctly to the new versions. Unloaded my profile to use default, and restarted Cubase - fixed the problem.

When reloading my profile and restarting Cubase - problem came back again.

Cool!
This was the issue I was talking about, in case anyone else has a problem:

Cool but also not cool, I’m just hoping all my key bindings, macros etc… can be loaded outside the profile and not cause a problem. Otherwise, this is really, really annoying.

Is the profile stored in your C13 presets folder?
If it was saved it should still be there.

That’s a point, will have a look. Moving it might do the trick… fingers crossed

Right, got it sorted. Thank goodness for that. C14 duplicated the profile.

For anyone else that runs into this, here’s what worked.

First, run Cubase and go to Edit > Profile Manager, click on “Default” then click on “Activate Profile”.

Restart Cubase, go back to the Profile Manager to confirm the default profile loaded, it should have a check :white_check_mark: next to “Default”. Once confirmed, quit Cubase.

Now open up File Explorer and ensure hidden items are visible by going to View > Show > Hidden Items

Now navigate to the following directory;

C:\Users(YOUR USER NAME)\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Application Files

In this location, there will be folders for Cubase versions, inside each of these will be a Profile folder.

Open Cubase 13 > Profile folder and check if the profile you’re having issues with is there. If so, move it out of this folder to your desktop (for now). In this case “profile - Marcus 2024.srf”

Go back and open the Cubase 14 > Profile folder and delete the duplicated profile.

*(optional but did this anyway to ensure no problems) *

Run Cubase 14, open the profile manager and just check your original profile is not listed. Now close Cubase.

Now the profile you moved to the desktop, move it into the Cubase 14 folder mentioned above. Run, Cubase 14 activate your profile, and restart Cubase and it should now work.

Hi guys,

I have a slightly different problem, but almost similar.
I used to change volume of few tracks at the same time by manuallu typing the value then ALT+SHFT+ENTER to validate for selected tracks, but it won’t validate, I now have to ALT+SHFT+click elswhere to validate.
Really ennoying. ALT+SHFT temporarily actives Q-Link, but it is buggy in C14
