Can I move VSTs to new folder without reinstalling?

Hey,

I have C5.5 thru C8 on my drive and my various VSTs and VSTi’s are scattered throught out these various installs, with C8 merely “pointing” to them. I’d like them all to be in …/Steinberg/VST Plugins so that future upgrades are “cleaner” in this regard.

Before I install C8.5 I want to clean up my system and get rid of the older versions of cubase and I was wondering if there’s a way to put all of these in a new, unified folder without reinstalling them all.

Could maybe use an app-mover? Don’t know.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Jef

Hi,

Very often, you can move just the DLL file(s), or VST3 file(s) to the wanted folder. But sometimes even other related files are necessary (then the plug-in has its own sub-folder, very often).

If you want to be sure, you can create your own VST folder, and copy all plug-ins to this folder even with the one folder above. So then, you would have:

  • VST plug-ins
  • Antares
  • NI
  • Steinberg
  • Waves

Then as a path, set just the parrent “VST plug-ins” folder.
