Can I uninstall the eLicenser Control Center?

I wrote to the Steinberg support about this on Friday the 22nd (almost a week ago) but haven’t yet heard from them so I thought I’d post this here as well, since it’s quite an important issue and since I don’t have any experience whatsoever of the eLicenser Service and eLicenser Control Center before my crossgrade to Dorico.

I just learned that the eLicenser service closes down in early 2025. I also just learned that my version of Dorico Pro 5 is a Steinberg Licensing-based product. But when I made the crossgrade from Finale earlier this year the eLicenser was installed and I have my Steinberg serial number there.

Is it safe to just uninstall the eLicenser Control Center? Is everything regarding my Dorico license already transferred to Steinberg Licensing?

If you uninstall eLicenser Control Center, it will be automatically reinstalled by Steinberg Download Assistant next time you run SDA, so I would recommend you simply leave it installed on your computer for now. Once the eLicenser servers are shut down next year, SDA will no longer install eLCC, and at that point it will be safe to remove it from your computer.

Thanks, Daniel!

Even better would be if the Steinberg Download Assistant would take care of the removal of the eLicenser Control Center after this service is no longer available, to make sure everything is set up correctly.
