Can someone explain some keywords used in Midi monitor log file

Hi,

Having some problems with what Chord track is sending to monitored tracks, I installed a midi monitor capting everything.
The file content is readable concerning normal midi messages trapped but, as in this extract there are 2 keywords I don’t understand and can’t find explanation in doc :

Chord Symbol 1 1 15. 4. 2. 59
Note On A1 72 64 1 10644.240 1 15. 4. 2. 59
Note On E2 72 64 1 10644.240 1 15. 4. 2. 59
Note On A2 72 64 1 10644.240 1 15. 4. 2. 59
Note On B2 72 64 1 10644.240 1 15. 4. 2. 59
Chord Symbol 1 1 21. 2. 3. 44
Note On A1 72 64 1 22320.005 1 21. 2. 3. 44
Note On E2 72 64 1 22320.005 1 21. 2. 3. 44
Note On A2 72 64 1 22320.005 1 21. 2. 3. 44
Note On C3 72 64 1 22320.005 1 21. 2. 3. 44
Chord Symbol 1 1 33. 1. 1. 64
Note On B1 72 64 1 3657.163 1 33. 1. 1. 64
Note On F#2 72 64 1 3657.163 1 33. 1. 1. 64
Note On B2 72 64 1 3657.163 1 33. 1. 1. 64
Note On D#3 72 64 1 3657.163 1 33. 1. 1. 64
Chord Symbol 1 1 34. 4. 4. 21
VST 3 Event 1 34. 4. 4. 21
Note On E1 72 64 1 3932.970 1 34. 4. 4. 21
Note On G#2 72 64 1 3932.970 1 34. 4. 4. 21
Note On B2 72 64 1 3932.970 1 34. 4. 4. 21
Note On E3 72 64 1 3932.970 1 34. 4. 4. 21

I bolded the lines, they concern the keywords ‘Chord Symbol’ and ‘VST3 Event’.

If I can understand that a chord symbol could appear when dealing with midi send by chord track, I don’t know any midi message for it ?

And the ‘VST3 Event’ is certainly not a midi message !

What are theses special messages ? Their usage ?

Does Cubase use some available CC message or some RPN/NRPN to send special sequences to monitored VSTI tracks ?

If you know, thank you for clarifying this dark side of midi monitor and chord track for me.

Chord symbol could be some display function, VST3 event could mean some kind of support for chord tracks in plugin…
This is just speculation, I know nothing about it

I haven’t tried to figure it out, but from the combination of text (Chord…) and Note it seems like the text “Chord Symbol” defines a Chord that is split into the separate Notes after it.

You can see the last digits (in bold and italics) are the same for Chord Symbol and the following four Notes. So it seems that this Chord is made up from these four notes.

If you go on in your list you will see the same numbering logic repeated, it starts with Chord, the digits and the Notes with the same last digits.

The last block, containing the VST3 Event has the same logic, so it seems that some VST3 plugin has issued this chord and the notes.

To me it looks like a logical combination to allow you to identify not just single notes, but also the chords that create them.

Regarding MIDI messages the text Chord and VST3 has probably no effect at all, it is no CC message or whatsoever, it is basically just some kind of “documentation” in the stream.

No, no vst3 generating midi here, just Chord track targeting monitored vsti tracks.
Concerning the VST3 notation, I suspect some steinberg NRPN dedicated value, just as @Jari_Junttila speculates, kinf of support for chord track in plugins, see my other thread
