Perhaps create the very short messa di voce as a custom playing technique and use a standard gradual dynamic for the “cresc.” text? Or keep all as dynamics, but use the caret to input the messa di voce hairpin with very short rhythmic duration.

It’s simply that you can use the caret (the orange line you see during note input) to specify exactly where dynamics go, start, and stop when you want that to be at other positions than noteheads.
