Cannot add volume automation to output track in Elements

I doing my first song with a lot of tracks. there are two parts of the song.. this first is more mellow and i set the volumes to around -5db and the result is fine. averging around -5db.

The second part of the song is more robust with a lot going on… and even though my separate tracks are around -5db, but when i play the song.. the second part averages 0 db.
I thought it may have been one of the tracks which was too loud…

I think I read something about that at one point. I guess that’s why God invented Audio Engineers..
There must be tricks around this… but since i am just a home studio musician i want the easy way out… that’s why i figure i can just automate the volume lower at the Master Out track to match that -5db range.

  • I am viewing the stereo output track in the inspector, and i click on the automation. I see a dropdown list of parameters to work on, but i don’t see volume. if i click on MORE, i see VOLUME in the next list.
I click OK, but i am still not seeing it anywhere…

I suppose i can do this manually on the stereo output track by enabling the RECORD button on the mixer and manually tweaking the volume knob, but automating the output using the automation ‘track’ in the inspector would be nice.. or is this somewhere in the 700 page manual ? lol.
Can’t see to find this when i Google… I am probably not searching the correct way.

Maybe this is limitation of Elements ?strong text

Hi,

You should see the Volume curve by default, without expanding the automation track.

You can also do it manually. To do so, don’t record. Enable (automation) Write [W] and move the fader while playback.

Ah yes !
The parameter is called MUTE which to me wasn’t intuitive. When i expand it virtically, I have a large region to find tune the volume.
Curious though, if i pull down the dropdown list, VOLUME is indeed one of the parameters to add to the automation parameter list.
Regardless, Martin…
you saved the day !!!
many thanks !
