Cannot change notes in score editor: everything greyed out

I edit my projects using the Score editor because I still use standard music notation. While editing a project, I hit some spurious key and everything is greyed out. I cannot change notes. I exited without saving, but reopening Cubase was in the same condition. In fact, when I opened other project, the same thing occurs.

I looked on the internet for a solution and could find none.

Please advise

Sounds like you deactivated all Edit Layers
