Cannot find Halion Sonic 7 in Dorico

Hi there,
when I first downloaded Dorico 5, it seemed to be able to use both Analog Lab and Halion Sonic for playback.
Today, when I opened Dorico, a prompt popped up telling me that I need to install Halion Sonic 7 using the Steinberg Download Assistant. So I did (not sure if I did it again?), and I can open Halion Sonic individually and play on it with no problem.

However, Dorico still launches with the same prompt and I cannot use either Analog Lab or Halion Sonic for playback. After searching the internet for one hour still cannot find a solution. All I have right now is the atrocious (sorry) Dorico Beep, which really ruins the playback as well as my mood.

Please please please please please someone help.
(also don’t know if this is helpful, I looked into the VST folders in Audio of Library on my Mac, all the folders were basically empty, which made me pretty horrified also, because I’ve been using all the plugins with no problem. So where is everybody, at the end of the day?)

Would really appreciate it if someone can provide a solution.

Thank you!!!

Could you attach a screenshot of the message that Dorico shows you on startup? Could you also do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the result here?

Here you go, thank you very much!

Could you show me what the Steinberg Download Assistant shows, for the list of components on the Dorico SE page?

I did try reinstalling/installing Halion Sonic earlier today and nothing changed after that.
And then I deleted and reinstalled Dorico to see if anything would work (after the reinstallation I sent the diagnosis. ) You can see the two “paused” because I accidentally clicked on them after reinstalling Dorico.

Thank you!

I have exactly the same problem…, and lots of lost hours…
It would be great if you give us a solution.
In my case, after been working with no problems for a month, suddenly Halion does not load the instruments when I start a project with Dorico. I have to add the instruments manually, and there is a horrible sound in the background all the time…

omg yes!!! I have been using Dorico with Analog Lab with no problem in the past month, and it’s just today that no plugin would load!!!

For the horrible sound, I had that too earlier today. I realized that it was showing up because the plugin I used to use wouldn’t load. After deleting the plugin from the Play section the noise stopped, but neither would it ever load again.

I’m not sure what’s going on there I’m afraid. You could try doing “Clear Audio Engine Cache” on the “VST Plug-ins” page of Preferences, to see whether that helps. You could also try changing “Default HALion plug-in” on the “Play” page of Preferences, to choose HALion Sonic explicitly - that might make a difference if you have multiple HALion installations. However, if Analog Lab is also going wrong then that suggests a more general issue. Perhaps @Ulf has a suggestion?

I was on another topic where Ulf suggested deleting the Audio Engine Cache folders. I did that, but nothing changed.

Ulf then suggested that I reinstall Hallion again, did that too, and nothing changed. (new report below)

The thing is that no plug in would show up on the play section except Dorico Beep or in the “VST plugin” of the settings.

Thank you!

Is this going wrong in new project files as well as old project files? In other words, if you start Dorico and create a new project from something like the Solo Piano template, does that have the same issue?

Yes, exactly the same

Hi @aniuskka24 , please post a Diagnostic Report (Help > Create Diagnostic Report). Thanks

In your case it looks like you haven’t installed the HALion Sonic Content, even if the HALion Sonic Instrument (the VST) is present.
