Cannot hear MIDI files in MediaBay

Hi all

I’ve recently re-installed Cubase Artist 8.5 on a new Windows 10 64-bit machine. Everything works fine except I cannot hear and preview any MIDI Files in MediaBay. All other types - MidiLoops and Audios files are fine. I have selected the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as the output device which in the past is all I’ve had to do. If I click on a MIDI file it looks as though it is playing and the transport panel indicates MIDI activity. I just can’t hear anything. Is there something in the settings I need to do?

That depends on the hardware you are using. In general, Microsoft GS wavetable synth is - as the name implies - a windows device, and therefore plays back via the windows sound settings, not Cubase.
