I am running into an issue where I cannot monitor the input of my Microlab midi keyboard in Cubase.
When I use the keyboard with other composing programs it works just fine, however in Cubase I cannot monitor it no matter what I try. The input is being recorded, and I can hear it when I play it back, but not while I am actively inputting/pressing the keyboard.
I have checked that the record button is enabled as well as the acoustic feedback and monitor buttons.
I have also checked that the keyboard is active in the studio setup.
I have restarted my computer, restarted Cubase, uninstalled and reinstalled Cubase, ran it in safe mode, and about every other solution that I have seen online with absolutely no luck.
When I press the virtual keyboard with my mouse, everything works fine and I can monitor the input. However when I do the same with my midi keyboard, it seemingly doesn’t register at all, but I can still record sounds on my midi keyboard and play it back.
Can you post a screenshot showing the Instrument (or MIDI?) Track you are recording onto making sure that the routing section of the Inspector is visible.
Here is a video of what I am describing. The first time, I input it with my midi keyboard and there is no audio while inputting (the issue that I am having). When I play it back, I can hear it fine, however, when I input the audio with my mouse, I can hear the notes while I am inputting, which is what I want to be able to do with the keyboard as well.
Update: Turns out it was the wire connecting my keyboard! I don’t know how but I guess it got damaged in such a way that Cubase could pick it up but couldn’t play back the input in real time.
I spent hours trying to debug why my Roland TD-11 drums kept disconnecting, only to find that when I replaced the generic USB cable with the original Roland cable the problem went away, permanently!
