Can't change A4 print page size

Hi pianoleo.
My score is set to A3. I’ve checked Graphics export (which I can’t change the paper size to A3) and Printer (which I can change to A3). The result is that the page size is not irrelevant. The margins are considerably different. So, unless I am understanding something wrong, it does make a difference.

@dspreadbury is there any news about this? Or, as for now, we cannot use Graphics to export in A3?

Edit: @pianoleo , maybe what you are saying is that, although it will show different margins/sizes inside Dorico’s Print Mode, when printing or exporting the PDF will be the same?

Graphic export’s size is the size set in Layout options >page setup. Ignore anything you see in Print mode. Period.

Well, I can ignore it, but it is still an issue. It is important to preview what it will look like.
Look at this image. There are 3 things:

  1. On the left, Print Mode on Printer.
  2. In the centre, the PDF exported by Graphics.
  3. On the right, Print Mode on Graphics.

Please notice that the margins of the PDF correspond to the margins on Printer of Print Mode, not of Graphics, although it was exported using Graphics, not Printer.

PS: Also, for some reason, Graphics start showing A3 instead of A4. I don’t know what I did so it happened, but in any case the margins are different from the PDF.

There were some improvements with this in Dorico 4.3 just in case you aren’t on the latest version.

You can also use the “Print Preview” shortcut in Write or Engrave which will display correctly. In Windows it’s the \ key, but it think I remember it’s something else on a Mac.

Even though it’s much better in 4.3, the Print mode preview is not 100% reliable, as you’ve found. Actually printing from Print mode is unfortunately mostly pointless for me. My standard part size is 9.5" x 12.5", and although I have this saved as a custom size in my Ricoh printer, Dorico can’t access it, and without a way to access system print settings from Dorico, I simply can’t print correctly. Using Graphics / PDF always produces the correct results, and I have to print from PDF anyway since I can’t print from Dorico, so mostly end up doing a final proofing for stuff like margins in the PDF. I’ve just learned to ignore things like margins and page size in the Print mode preview, although it’s certainly disconcerting to see the wrong thing as you are going to print or export.
