Can't get MIDI input to work anymore, MIDI works in other apps

This has always been somewhat finicky, but now all of a sudden it stopped working completely and I can’t seem to resolve it (don’t know when exactly, last couple of weeks? Maybe it aligns with update but not sure.).

Symptoms and what I’ve tried:

Restarting Dorico does not help (keyboard on before restarting)
Restarting computer does not help
Power cycling keyboard does not help

Dorico plays the music fine, and also plays the current staff’s instrument when I play on the keyboard, but note entry only works via keyboard, not MIDI, MIDI record does not work, MIDI learn doesn’t work.

Reaper reads MIDI fine.
PianoTeq reads MIDI fine.

Preferences → Play → MIDI Input Devices:
Digital Piano (this is what I’m using - this disappears if I turn the keyboard off)
UMC204HD 192k MIDI In
Vienne Instruments MIDI
(I’ve also tried selecting only Digital Piano)

Preferences → Play → Recording →
Enable MIDI input
Suspend when application is in background (tried both ways)
Enable MIDI Thru
Filter out MIDI controllers
Preserve note velocities
Preserve note positions

Preferences → Play → Audio Device → Advanced Options
I tried turning off WinRT MIDI, didn’t help

My keyboard is a Yamaha P-105 (somewhat old), connects via USB.
Dorico version 6.2.10.6140.

Diagnostics report too large to upload, but I could upload parts of it…

Help much appreciated, thanks!

Depending on the size, you could email it to @Ulf ; you could split it into multiple sections and send them separately; or you could put the file into Dropbox or a similar file bin in the cloud and post the link.

Good point. Dorico Diagnostics.zip

Hi @StephenWeatherford ,

thanks for the data. You wrote that you switched off WinRT MIDI, but at the time you created the diagnostic report it was still or again switched on. I can see this clearly from the report data.

So may I ask you to do that again? Go to the Preferences dialog, switch off the WinRT MIDI option, apply and close, and then restart Dorico. I would also check again if WinRT MD is switched off and then do the MIDI input test again. Same result?

If so, then also try switching on the option Filter out MIDI controllers. And again, restart Dorico for the new setting to take effect.

It’s always annoying when you “know” you tried something and it didn’t work, but does when someone else asks you to again. I’ll take it, though, turning off WinRT MD worked this time. Thanks!
