Can't launch, stuck on Initializing: All MIDI Inputs

Hello
I worked all day and made a break.
When I started again, cubase wouldn’t initiate.
First it froze on the hub, then it froze on Initialize midi…
I unplugged all usbs, no improvement.
I re installed cubase 15, no improvement
I tried cubase 14, no improvement.
I started the PC often, no improvement.
When I try in safe mode, it freezes on the hub.
I don’t understand what could possibly do this when I did not install or modify anything between the two sessions.
Any idea, please?

If you’re using Windows 11, then this:

Windows MIDI Services rolled out in Windows 11 24h2 and 25h2 at the end of January. Each month since then, we’ve released fixes. The specific fixes are detailed in the Discord server mentioned below.

Common problems:

  • inMusic (AKAI, Rane, m-audio, etc.) using their drivers. We have a workaround for the inMusic driver bug that has been in Windows since April (but took 30 days to roll out fully). However, if you are not completely up to date in updates, you will run into this driver bug. Additionally, if you unplug or power down an inMusic device while it is in use, you will run into this, even with our workaround in place. When the lockup happens, you have to reboot.
  • KORG USB drivers. KORG has asked their customers to uninstall them as they are no longer necessary and no longer compatible. https://www.korg.com/us/news/2026/0312/ . Solution is to uninstall them. That might mess up your registry though and so may require you to follow instructions on the Discord server for how to fix that using the tools we provide.

If it’s not one of those two things, or you need to fix the registry after the KORG driver uninstall, join the MIDI Discord Windows MIDI / Audio . Most things are answered in the pinned #start-here post, but if not, then follow the instructions in that post to create a new thread, and I’ll help you out.

Hey Pete.
Thanks for helping out.
No, I don’t have any Akai or Korg and this is way beyond a midi problem.
Dorico doesn’t work either, synthesizer V doesn’t initialize.
When opening Cubase in safe mode, midi initialize goes well but it freezes on the hub.
It’s like something is seriously wrong on my windows and it is only on audio softwares.
Capcut works fine.
I did not install a new pilot or anything of the sort.
In fact, nothing has changed between my working session and the troubled one.
I am on windows 11 on a high quality microsoft surface.
Please help.
Thank you.

Hey Pete
I just found out the origin of the issue.
I took the screen out of my surface and tried to launch Cubase.
It worked !
Then I plugged back the screen on the base, the keyword and USB port part, and it WORKED !
This is a weakness of concept on the surface.
Please report Microsoft about this.
Sometimes, connection between screen and base creates a lot of trouble.
Thanks for helping.
Working for microsoft, would you have some advice on how to maintain this connection between screen and base in order to minimize disfunctionning, please?
Should I use cleaning products? Which ones?
Thank you very much Pete.
Stephane.

Glad you got it working.

I haven’t had any issues with the connection between the tablet and keyboard, but I don’t get my PCs particularly dirty.

It’s an electrical and magnetic connection. If food or something else were to find its way in there, I could see how it could maybe cause problems. I wouldn’t use any cleaner in there, though.

What model Surface is this?
