After months of flawlessly switching between sample rates today I’m unable to run 88.2 or 96k (Windows 11/WL 12.00.10 build 556). After trying numerous audio files that work perfectly in Reaper and RX, updating RME drivers (for HDSP/AES) and Prism Lyra 2 SW and firmware, trashing Wavelab audio pref’s, resetting/renaming input and output ports, I’m still unable to get more than 1 or 2 seconds of playback before the transport stops.
No plugins anywhere, no resampling on Master. RME shows lock to Prism as per-normal. Tried various buffer sizes.
Clearly I did something wrong, or hit a shortcut by mistake, but I’m unable to figure it out.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Does this happen when there are no other apps open (that is WL is the only thing open)?
I ask because I have had a background app ‘grab’ the RME soundcard.
Also … check that the master section does not accidentally have a real time resample going on.
No other app’s open including after full re-boot of computer and Lyra, and no resampling happening on the master. 44.1 and 48k behave normally btw.
Hmmm
If you still have WL 11.2 installed, see if the same issue presents there?
Check the buffer settings on the RME. I have had this randomly reset.
Another thought … given that RME HDSPe cards are typically rock solid, if it is practical, maybe take out the AES connection from the Prism … press play and see what happens (no sound I know, but just see if WL plays with the RME card only). This should see if there’s a roadblock around the Prism not getting a re clocking message.
11.2 also doing it.
That’s unfortunate.
I’ll keep thinking. My main system is Windoze 10 RME HDSPe AIO sending AES to a Lavry and SPDIF to an RME ADI 2 (headphone monitor) so similar.
No, only worked temporarily. Something really weird is going on in Wavelab at 88.2 and 96K. Lost nearly a full day and not fixed yet.
Hi!
Possible to try with OSX and a Mac just to nail down things?
Why when I made 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz with builtin Signal Generator
no problem here works all the time…
Is RME Audio Device in External clocking mode or Internal sync?
OSX Ventura and MacBook Air M1

RME driver updated, Lyra driver and firmware updated. Windows OS sound panel all devices disabled except for RME. 44.1 and 48K files work normally, 88.2 and 96k are wrecked. Tried various buffer sizes, clocked to both RME and Lyra. Tried with wav files originating from different DAW’s. One noticeable phenomena is the ADI-1 DAC (inputs from AES/RME) shows 88.2 during the brief playback but reverts to 44.1 when transport stops. It seems something is fighting with RME for clock supremacy. No other app’s are running, I’ve restarted many times, went to an earlier system restore point, yada yada.
Checked Master Section “Resampling”?
or it’s a setting file?
PG or Justin help…

Try to remove the whole pref folder for a while:
\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab Pro 12\
I also recall that there used to be a setting ‘reset driver on change of sample rate’ (I think that’s what it was) in Audio Connections.
I can’t see it with the RME Hammerfall DSP ASIO deivce in my system, but I seem to recall that selecting or deselecting could fix this issue.
Can you see a setting like this?
Idiocy of incompetence was discovered. The culprit was having given Digicheck control over ASIO input sample rates, forcing 44.1 on the system. How I checked that box, I don’t know, but one would suspect user error.
Great that you found the culprit. It is often that I myself have to go trough all settings to make it work. It can be frustrating but solving it gives peace. Best of luck from now on.
In your defense … the recent big Windoze 10 update did something randomly similar to one of my RME TotalMix settings (all of a sudden, no output to the RME ADI?) I am 100% certain I have not been near that setting … or TotalMix for that matter … for a period resembling forever.
Very happy you sorted it.
I’ve not been near DIGIcheck in a few months.
But I did do a registry entry to make it auto-launch at startup 10 days ago or so, and I think only worked at 44.1 last week so didn’t notice. Geez. Embarrassing and a waste of time.
I prefer to think of it as an ‘educational experience’ when I do stuff like this ha ha
