I’ve put over $50k of my own money into cantai, but it’s run out. I wish I had better news, but the fact is I’m broke. I’ve had several potential investors come talk to me, but nothing has materialized from it yet.
All this means in practical terms is that my team of 3 developers (including the VST) will be on hold. I will of course continue my solo development as I’ve been doing since January 2024, but I will also need to find a job to make ends meet.
So, things will just move much more slowly. This is very disappointing. I find the contrast between the immense enthusiasm for cantai (the words “game-changing”, “revolutionary”, etc., are thrown around a lot) and the lack of investment extremely puzzling. I must not, however, give up hope!
If you wish to help bring the cantai VST to reality, there are two things you can do:
Spread the word about the pre-order discount Cantai ($75 off lifetime license) Pre-Order cantai VST $75 off!
Make no mistake, we have made tremendous strides in cantai development in the past 3 months. We are in fact very nearly there. We just need one more final push to get the VST done!
Richard, thanks for the update. I know you must be extremely frustrated (not to say worried) about this.
First of all, I hope you can get a job, to sustain yourself above all. After that, I’m sure Cantai will see its completion, even if it does take a little longer than planned.
Very saddened by the situation. My hope is that someone, somewhere will see the value of Cantai and want to invest in it to see it through the original calendar.
Hi Richard, I’m very thrilled about the prospect of what you’re doing. Unfortunately I’m also in the “wait to purchase” crowd. I’m sure you understand that some of us have been burned before (for me it was a Kickstarter for a table tennis robot… which turned out to be one of the biggest scams in Kickstarter’s history). I won’t pre-order again unless it’s an established, proven company.
But I don’t doubt what you’re doing, and I’ll gladly purchase it when it comes to fruition.
That sounds impressive, I’m happy I already preordered.
Let’s say I have a 60 minute opera in Dorico, split in 6 flows, and I change one note in the 4th flow. Would I need to render the whole opera, or will there be some clever way to render only what has changed?
Dan, I hear ya. I mean when an account manager from a small country asks for help in moving 39 million dollars out of their country, who am I to say no? Sometimes ya gotta do the right thing.
Table tennis robot? You should have known that was a “racket” from the start. You might even say it was a “net” loss (buh-dum chhhh), and – okay I’m done.
Good luck Richard! I hope you can get some investors on board.
For me, the product has a lot of potential, but also a long way to go. At the moment, it falls into the trap of sounding as if the singers don’t care. So there is no transmission of emotion.
The same was true of sampled instruments until recently (and even now still applies to some instruments, particularly brass). NP with NPPE has made things a lot better there, and I’m sure with development Cantai can get there too.
I don’t know exactly how NP does it, but I think it’s likely to be down to altering note start and end times and micro dynamics.
The voices, even when singing in English, seem to have a fundamentally Chinese sound and style.
