Capital letters size discrepancies

Why are some capital letters bigger than others? makes me dizzy to read…

I hope I have understood your request correctly.

Regarding character width (not character size!), I am aware of two types of fonts: proportional and non-proportional (fixed-width).

  1. Non-proportional (fixed-width) fonts = all characters have the same width (useful for tables and similar layouts). For example: Courier.
  2. Proportional fonts = characters have varying widths (determined by their visual appearance), making them much more comfortable to read. For example: Times.

Is this relevant to your question?

Hi, I don’t mean width, by “size” I meant how some random letters are taller than other as you can see from my screenshots, the ones i underlined look bigger than the others, which I can’t think of a logical reason why that would be desirable, seems like a visual bug that I’d like to be fixed.

Basically I’d expect all capital letters to look the same height

it seems like the font is designed like that, which is not uncommon in typography.
and these not random letters if you look close, its just the ones that have a rounded top and/or bottom like C, G, O, Q and S,.
A and B looks to me they are same size as the D, only the C is bigger of those

if this topic triggered your interest now, the search word “typography overshoot” will point you to more information

oh right, A & B are normal size, still the other 5 are visibly bigger.

but typography overshoot is an intentional change of the height of some letters so they all “visually feel” the same size, here the effect is quite the opposite, I wish they could fix it
