I’m trying to create a mini song-book that has Chord symbols for guitar, but I wanted to to have it show the Capo Chords Only.
I use the “Guitar” instrument
I input all the non-transposed chord symbols first and then I set the Capo under settings.
The issue I’m having is that the “Transposed” Capo chord symbols are showing the exact same chords as the non-transposed chords. For example, The piece is in the Key of F non-transposed. So for the first chord symbol, I put “F”. The issue is, For Capo Transposed Chords, I need to show a “D” Chord symbol and put a Capo on 3rd Fret. Dorico for some reason isn’t showing that. If I set Capo to 3rd fret, and then select “show Transposed Capo Chords” it still shows “F”
Am I doing something wrong? Please advise
What I’ll need is:
(1) To be able to show “Capo 3rd Fret” or whatever fret I choose
(2) To be able to show the transposed chord symbols that will sound like the original when the Capo is set on a Fret, For instance, if the original Chord is “F” I need it to show the Transposed chord to play to sound as F if Capo is on 3rd Fret or whatever fret
(3) Do 1 and 2 but change it for different flows/songs.
You need to define your capo chord in setup mode. Then display transposed chord symbol as main.
I think the layout needs to be transposed.
For different capos o would create multiple instruments for the same player with different capo settings. Then just only use the instrument you want for that flow. By default, dorico should write the first instrument of a player in the flow at the very beginning of that flow.
There are two possible places to set up a capo, and I wonder if you have set one and not the other. In the instrument you can set up a capo that will affect the relationship between guitar tab and staff notation, and in the player you can set up a capo that will affect chord symbols.
(In case you are wondering why there are two separate places for this, it is that there are some situations where the chord symbols aren’t really related to the instrument that they’re displaying on. One is PVG scores, where the chord symbols/diagrams are for guitar but they’re displaying above a piano staff. Another is the situation where the chord symbols/diagrams for the rhythm guitar part are displayed above the notation/tab for the lead guitar part.)
How would I access player? Is it in set up mode?
Is there a way to display the Capo Fret, or would I need to type it in via text?
There is not currently an automatic way to display that information. You would need to type that in manually.
You can name the instruments according to their fret, and then it will always show automatically in the score.
