Would it be possible to have the arrow keys (up, down, left and right) control a selected point in a CC automation in order to more finely select the value This could be in place of the limited ALT-arrow for horizontal moves only by how the input caret is setup and the value box adjustments requiring an overtype or use of the mouse and arrows in the value box.
It is almost like a game of Russian roulette to select an exact value in a CC automation lane at the exact point in which one wants that control change to occur in playback. I’ve searched previous threads and have not found this posted elsewhere. If one knows of a related thread, please share. Thanks!
No, it’s just inconsistent values. I can put the mouse on what seems to be the same pixel three different times with same value displaying at the left margin and get three different values with three different clicks. For example, I can click on the value of 60 and it could actually create the value of 60, 59 or 61 even while displaying only 60. And it doesn’t seem to matter if I stretch that lane to a maximum size.
I suspect it is a resolution issue of any screen to an invisible grid. Having a grid with new lines for each value from 0 to 127 would also work. BTW, CC automations need to be able to send a zero (0) value, too, but that’s a different discussion…
That’s what I do. The problem is that the selection, as I previously stated, is not terribly accurate using the mouse.
It would be more convenient and accurate, at least to some of us, to be able to use the arrow keys, as stated previously, to adjust to exactly the right time along the horizontal axis and exactly the right value in the vertical axis. Right now it’s arrows plus ALT key for one and box adjustment for the other.
Let me start again because I think we are not discussing the same thing.
So, I use the line tool in Automations to set the value for the automation. When setting that value, I can select, for example, the value 50 and click as soon as the cursor is at that value. Sometimes it sets the value 50 and sometimes it sets 51 or 49 even though 50 is on the display when I click to set the point from a vertical axis perspective.
What I would like to do is be able to use the up and down arrow keys to modify that selection to 50 when it hits 49 or 51 instead of 50 instead of having to engage the select tool, click on the value to select it yet again, go to the value box and change the value there. If the discreet value would remain selected after placement, it would be much simpler to adjust using the arrow keys.
Likewise, I can set that same point in the horizontal axis on, for example, bar 25, beat 2. After clicking to set that horizontal position it can either be slightly left or slight right of the intended horizontal position without any movement of the mouse cursor (in my case a trackpad) while clicking.
What I would like to be able to do is move it left or right using the left or right arrow keys to position it exactly, for example, on beat 2. Currently, one does that by using alt-[arrow key] after changing to the selection tool and then selecting the value again. One issue is that the distance it moves is controlled by how the input caret is set. For example, if set as 8th notes in 4/4, it will only move the automation value to the left by the duration of an 8th note whether or not the position lands on the exact 8th note or not. So, precise placement is very challenging and awkward.
