Change KBPS from 128 to 320

Hello everyone,

I’m confused about the concept of KBPS. I worked on a project in 44,100, 24-bit format, and I exported it to MP3 and WAV to upload it to a sales platform. This platform informs me that the bitrate of my MP3 is 128 kbps and that a minimum of 320 kbps is required. What is the difference between bits and kbps, and how can I fix this? (Knowing that the WAV file was successfully uploaded, but I also need to provide the MP3 file.)

Thank you.

Hi,

In Cubase, you can change the export format of MP3s in your audio mixdown dialog to 320 kbps.
Explaining the differences between formats or bit depth and sample rate is not something you do in three sentences depending on what you already know. Please search the internet - there are a gazillion videos on that topic

This is how you fix it.

@Reco29 beat me to it. Damn!

Had I seen you typing I would have waited knowing that it’s your Steinberg birthday today :shortcake:

I was being clever with a screenshot.
Then I was thinking, how do you explain about kbps, bits and Hz? Then my brain froze for a moment.

Hahaha, yeah we’ve all been there

Kbps is an abbreviation for kilo bit per second. It started to get used by compressed audio files, whereas uncompressed files are usually referred to by sample rate and bit depth.
You can convert it quite easily.
Sample rate: 44100, bit depth: 24
44100 x 24 = 1 058 400 bit per second = 1058 kilo bit per second.
That is for each channel, so for stereo you have to multiply by 2.

Note: I am not 100% sure whether “kilo” uses 1000 (as human beings do) or 1024 (which computers prefer).

Thanks a lot guys, that was very clear
