Change key of existing score

There are times when I need to change keys of existing scores due to limitations of vocalists. This was/is easy in Sibelius. Two clicks and accidentals are adjusted globally. At the moment, Dorico requires me to manually change individual accidentals after I change keys.

What am I missing?

Select All, Write > Transpose, ensure that the tickbox to transpose key signatures is ticked, click OK.

Thanks. I was looking on a different area instead of the top menu. Solved.

How to do this in iPad? Write where?

Welcome to the forum, Tom! You can transpose in the iPad version via the entry in the contextual menu accessed via the secondary toolbar. More details here.

Transpose key signature is permanenlty greyed out. Any suggestions on a fix? This seems like a problem with a relatively simple solution, but I can’t seem to figure it out. Thanks! - Mark

Have you included an actual key signature in your selection to transpose?

I could not figure out how to add that.

Use the system track (alt-t, the grey rectangles above the systems) to select the portion of the score you need to transpose. System track selects all the objects of the are, including chords, key signatures…

Do you mean, you have no key signature at all?

I figured out the issue. My piece is in C major, but I never entered a key for the piece. Once Dorico recognized the piece was in C, I could transpose.

Thanks so much!

Classic mistake. We’ve all been there

The piece is in C so “no key” and C major were indistinguishable (no sharps or flats) on the score.

For anyone’s reference:
If you create a new score from the Hub, bottom right is where you set its key signature (or uncheck if none, atonal).

To check if it is actually in C, turn on View > Signposts which should then show what key you are in at that point in the score.

No key sig. in first bar, 3/4 bar is in C (Signposts>Key signatures on)
