The simple way would be to just select a note, then right click and

The more advanced and perhaps better way:
In setup mode

then select the hi-hat and click Edit percussion playing techniques

click the + sign and select open in the list or open1

Select a notehead set
Then in the score option + shift + up/down arrows to change the notehead

Yes, thank you, I already did that, I’d rather change the default appearance than having to press option-shift-arrows every time. Besides, the “o” on top of the note won’t go away for notes entered as Bb2. Of course, I could enter it as closed HH then change the noteheads, ignoring the play back, but, but, wouldn’t it be loverly?..

Ah, you are playing in the pitches from a keyboard?
Don’t know if it’s possible. Something in the percussion map perhaps.

Jesper

Well, yes, so much faster with the keyboard… I looked in that window, I don’t see anything about notation.
In any case, an advanced notation program such as Dorico should allow any user modification, even if they might say “it’s good for you”. I just don’t like that “o” over the notes…

No, I think I wished for that a long time ago.
But somehow Dorico knows to put an ° above right.

Jesper

Thank you, Jesper
Maybe some developer is monitoring the forum…

Alex

Oh, they are but there is a long list of requests.
