I have a number of jigs transferred from Finale. Some are notated in 6/8 and some in 6/16. I’d like them all to be in 6/8. Is there a way to double all the note durations and changing the time signature and measure length?
Welcome.
It is possible. Depending on the complexity of your jigs, you could:
- Engage Insert mode (I)
- Select all.
- Write>Edit duration> Double duration
- Change the time signature
There are some important caveats. It does not work on tuplets (but - with insert mode on - you can remove the tuplets and then reapply them after doubling). Also text, dynamics, repeat barlines etc. will not stay aligned. There can be complications if you have intermittent multi-voices on a single staff.
(This could be a good exercise to learn how Dorico insert mode works!)
Thanks. It worked. I had to first delete the pickup measure (and later replace it), and most of the chords needed to be redone. Keep a copy of your original for reference!
Glad it worked.
(It should have been possible simply to replace a pickup time signature with another, so if your original had a 1/16th upbeat you would enter shift-M 6/8,1 as your new time signature.
Chords can be relocated with alt/opt-right arrow. No need to re-enter them. If the occur each bar in your original, set your grid to dotted crotchet, start with the last one and work back to the beginning.)
I was going to suggest changing the meter first so the score doesn’t look as scary temporarily … But it doesn’t matter to the end result.
