I’m sure this is easily done, but I can’t find it anywhere. What I want to do is copy a few of measure from the violin part to the viola part, then using my MIDI device, change the notes in the viola part but not the duration of the notes. I have tried using the Pitch Before Duration option but that’s not doing what I want it to do. I can change the duration of each upcoming note by choosing the correct duration, or I can select the note and press the option+up/down arrows but being the lazy guy that I am, I would like to just play in the desired note and have the duration stay the same without having to choose each new duration. I’ve attached a screenshot of a sample, and also of where the repitch option is in Finale.
You need to use Lock Duration (L).
Copy the notes from Violin to Viola. Start note entry on the Viola and hit L. Then just repitch each note. The durations will remain the same.
