Is it possible to change the font of the time signature only
Library>Font Styles>Time Signature font?
Thank you for that, I was looking in the wrong place.
The only problem is that the font I have now chosen isn’t showing. I am used to using Finale Jazz for Clefs, Key Signatures but like to use Finale Jazz Text for time signatures. Having chosen that in Font Styles the font that is showing is more like a traditional classic engraver font.
Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong?
What if you chose Finale Jazz and not Finale Jazz text?
I get this but not sure how it should look.
Jesper
Thank you Jesper. But this is the look I am used to
Finale Jazz for music font but Finale Jazz Text for time signature.
In Engraving Options, have you set the time signature font to display as plain text?
OK, thank you both, I got there in the end.
In my opinion though, Dorico is proving to be more complicated to achieve what I want.
I’m not sure I’m going to stick with it. I don’t need to write massive orchestral scores with instrument changes etc etc. and numerous sounds, I use a daw for producing backing tracks. I just want a simple notation program and Finale was great for my needs.
Sorry Finale Jazz text works too.
Jesper
Chris, Dorico Elements could be the perfect version of your choice. I am not sure though whether you can use your own font choices in Elements.
You’re right – you don’t need to write massive orchestral scores! Dorico works very well for simple lead sheets, and smaller works, too.
But obviously, if you want to customize things, then that will require some familiarity. (As indeed it did in Finale.)
Dorico treats “music fonts” and “text fonts” as different things. It doesn’t expect music fonts to have text symbols, and it doesn’t expect text fonts to have music symbols. So if you want to use Finale Jazz Text (a text font) for your time sigs, instead of a music font, then you have to tell it, in Engraving Options, that that’s what you’re doing.
You’re also right that the default Finale Jazz time sigs are not very attractive! Finale Ash (a music font), set to 24 points, is very similar to the look you’re after:
Thank you for explaining a little more about the font handling in Dorico.
