Changed Naming of new VST versions (e.g. "Halion 6" -> "Halion 7") + challanges @ VST LIVE PRO

Dear Steinberg-Team,
I am a keyboarder who is using Steinberg VST LIVE Pro for my songs.
For me it is a huge work to programm my songs and to map VST instruments into VST sounds. Of course I am interested in VST updates (e.g. update from Halion 6 to Halion 7).

If I remember correctly the last big update was related by a big accident on my notebook on which I am running my VST setup. After the update Halion 6 was completely de-installed and replaced by Halion 7. As a consequence my old VST software was not able to find the mappings to the halion6-vst instruments.

Would it be possible to prevent such problems in the future?
Maybe you can synchronize Steinberg internal between the VST team and the VST live Pro-team how such an update issue could be prevented so that a customer has no fearst to purchase a VST update and it can be assured that the VST setup can also be used after the VST update.

I hope you can follow my explanations.

It would be great if you please could give a short update.

For me it would be wast of time to make alle VST mappings again after the update.
It should be possible to get some backward-compatibility.

Thanks in advance for your short feedback and support.

Kind regards

Sam

While you’re waiting, just install HALion 6 (dongle required!):

Dear Googly Smythe,
thanks for your response to this topic.
I am currently migrating to VST LIVE PRO (from another VST HOST Software).
That means I am creating all sound / song mappings new.
Therefore I would not be interested in the old Hardware Dongle Solution which is also not anymore supported by Steinberg, as far as I know.

The aim of my request was to make the steinberg teams aware what are the consequences for user of VST libraries in case the they rename their VST library (e.g. from Halion 6 to Halion 7). It would be great if Steinberg would find a way / solution how to make it new VST library updates downward comatible.

Maybe it would be possible that VST LIVE PRO gives an error that the old VST library (Halion 6) could not be found and to ask by which follow-up Library (Halion 7) it should be replaced.

I am sure that in the future similar situations will happen and it would be great if the 170 songs of my band could be used also after the next comming Steinberg VST update (e.g. for halion 8).

I am asking carefully because I am interested to do my sound mappings per song completely new.

Kind regards

Sam
