Changing black notehead to a Half-note note head

image
Greetings all. This is the type of gliss i like to use for harp. I used to change the first notehead to a half-note notehead if the gliss started on count 3 and lasted until ct. 1 of the following measure. Is there a way to do the same in dorico?
Many thanks

To do that you have to enter a real note in another voice with the same pitch at the same position as the first note of the gliss and with the desired note length and stem direction (in general opposite of the gliss stems). I usually do this by entering the desired note on the other harp staff and then moving it by pressing m (down) or n (up) to the staff where you entered the gliss.

In general that works but if you get an alignment issue i.e. you see the gliss and half note next to each other you can align the two notes in engrave mode in the properties window,

I think that helpful will be also setting “Allow noteheads to overlap” in Notation Options, if you use second voice

Do you mean like this?

If so, it’s a couple of minutes to set up but it’s a one time job and it’s quick to re-use when it’s done.

  • Library>Notehead Sets

  • choose common/default

  • choose Default Noteheads

  • with the plus in a square button make a duplicate of the default set and name it something like ‘all half note’

  • for each notehead that isn’t a half-note, select the image and then, with the right-hand icon just below do ‘remove notehead from set’

  • when you’re left with just the half-note, make sure the ‘Use for Durations shorter than or equal’ is checked

  • If you want to use this other projects you have to hit the ‘star’

  • hit OK

Now you can select a note and with right-click>notehead assign it to half-note head and beam it as if it were 8/16/32 etc

Fantastic! I’ll try it when I get a chance! Many Thanks!

worked like a charm!

This forum works well! I found this instantly trying to start a new topic! Bravo, Dorico! I have two details that help me:

  1. Make sure that you are in Write Mode and Note Input when you add the second voice.

    1. Make sure that you have left Note Input when you select the notehead to make into a half notehead and make sure that your notehead is really selected (needs to be orange) before you right-click and select Notehead-half notehead.

This does not seem to work for duplicating the Larger Noteheads like the Default font. I can’t get this to work for my Sonatina 6. Can I attach a file to this forum?
