Changing meters with music already entered - problem with adding beats

So I’m writing some music that contains changing meters. I have a passage with a bar of 4/4, followed by a bar of 5/8 followed by a bar of 4/4.

I decided the 5/8 bar should be a 7/8 bar instead. So I changed the meter.

But as you can see, despite the new time sig being present. the music is still 5/8. Deleting notes on the middle line and trying to rewrite the figure, it still acts as if the time sig is still 5/8. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to insert a bar with the measure tool, change it to 7/8 and then rewrite the music there? That seems like kludgy workaround. Thoughts?

Also - notice the discrepancy now in bar numbers in the second snippet. What is that about?

Dorico won’t create extra beats when you change the time signature, unless Insert mode is active. This preserves the existing relationships between the notes that you’ve already written, but can result in incomplete bars (which are now warned about via the Proofreading panel).

Try re-inputting the 7/8 time signature, but with Insert mode active.

Thanks! That did the trick!
