changing midi note assignment of pad

I’m trying to change the midi note assignments of some pads. I can do this with “use hardware controller mapping” and then set a different trigger note, which then shows up in top RH corner of the pad.
BUT, when I hit the pad and record the midi output I get BOTH the original midi note AND the newly assigned one. How do I remove the default assignment and get JUST the newly assigned one?

(this is in the cubase 8 elements version of Groove agent 4.20)

Hey. Press HARDWARE CONTROLLER MAPPING BUTTON on GROOVE AGENT then right click the pad you want to change then look for EDIT/CHANGE TRIGGER NOTE then tap the controller pad /key you want it to be.
