Changing Plug-in Category

When right-clicking on an Insert to add an FX plugin, everything is sorted by category. I have one plugin from Xfer called LFO Tool. It does not appear in any category. If I click on Devices > Plug-in Information I notice it has a category of FX. I am wondering if there is a way to modify this to FX|Dynamics so when adding an Insert effect it appears in my Dynamics folder? Or is this a fixed setting based on the plugin developer?

You can’t change that as a user.
The category is part of the VST SDK, which makes that the creator of the plugin “labels” the plugin.

I asked the developer if he could add a sub-category. Are the sub-catergories only available in VST 3? Or can this be done in VST 2.x?

Sub-categories are VST3. I’m not sure if this can be done in VST2 too.
You might be able to trick a VST2 plugin by putting the .dll in a specific named folder.
