somehow I ruined a track of midi drums, which was mostly triplets and got accidentally quantized to 16ths. I went to the previous save before this happened and copied and created a new track to be safe to paste it into, and channel 10 was not a choice. I pasted anyway and then went to make it channel 10 and again, no such choice. available channels are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15,16. I would snip, but either screen disappears when I try to use the snipping tool. Why no 10? I have other drum tracks on 10 from previous takes but can’t add a new such assignment.

What Cubase version do you use? Are you taking about a MIDI Channel? Could you attach a screenshot?
