I updated recently to the latest version (2.2.0, now 2.2.10) from some previous version, 2.0.27 or whatever it was (was waiting to update until I was between shows) and have been stresstesting the rigs, everything is more stable than it’s ever been. A very notable difference though is that the video is now choppy. I’m not sure if it’s all the video clips but in many of them it’s VERY noticeable. I tried with multithreading both on and off, no difference. Can’t find any other video settings to fiddle with. CPU load is very low too.
Any ideas as to what may be going on here?
Try with latest pre-release version 2.2.14 from www.vstlive.net
I also noticed some degradation in video playback, but not on every video, only older and low res ones , maybe it’s an up scaling issue?!? @musicullum can you check my old big project you already have, some videos is playing back a bit choppy… stuttering, not every one , try different songs !?
Thank you, Ciro.
I’ll try it on my test machine, don’t dare trying it right now on the actual show ones.
The ones causing the most problems are 60fps, it’s a pretty clear distinction. I also just double checked a 2.2.0 install vs a 2.2.10 on the test machine and got exactly the same result, 2.2.0 all smooth, 2.2.10 all choppy. I played around with changing the frame rate and it did get a bit better, but the resulting image is not great.
There’s a bit of overlap between a couple of the videos, one fading out when the other starts. I think I MAY have seen a small difference after removing the overlap (not only in the overlapping section) but it might be imagination.
Another very odd thing that happened now when converting to other frame rates: when I import the converted files, the video starts immediately whereas the original file has a few seconds of black frames at the start (it has two bars of count-in that was used for the videographers to sync). When I play back the files outside of VSTL, the black section is there. I have no idea what that’s about, really weird.
EDIT: tried it now with v2.2.14, it’s actually even a bit worse.
If anyone wants to check this, here is the original file:

I tried importing it into a new, empty project and it plays back the same way. It’s very easy to see the choppiness with the fire bursts in the beginning, just compare to any other playback program outside of VSTL.
Also, here is my converted 25fps file that imports with the offset at the beginning:

Hi @NBS-Studio !
downloaded your files and can confirm neither videos are played as smooth as they are played in VLC or simply OSX preview,
furthermore VL is struggling to play the video smooth at PART changes. Here is my screenrec to the Developers, maybe can help for further investigation (all parts are “empty”, no LYR, no STK)

In addition: yes, the 60fps video is very choppy…
@NBS-Studio can you try something: somehow… but not representative … when set SONG fps to 30fps, the 60fps movie is played a bit better (or?)
P.S: this visual is mega cool!
Thank you very much.
There was a missing frame rate update, please check again with the next version.
There are limits to how smooth video can be based on system performance, of course, but also how much audio processing is involved, the latter always takes priority - but you knew that already I guess
This file has a problem that our player cannot resolve: it has no keyframe at the beginning. Never saw that before, and it entirely screws up any attempt to figure out a present time.
Thanks! Holding for the next version.
About my converted file, I did it through VLC and it’s really not my area of expertise so I’m not the least bit surprised that it’s not accurate.
Thanks to Fikalmus as well for testing this! Yeah it’s pretty neat content, we have different videos for each song so it’s stuff going on through the whole set. We’ve gotten really good response for it.
Cheers,
