Chord symbols on the staff

I’m a musician “migrating” from Finale. I’ve often used notation there (for improvisation, for example) where chord symbols are written directly on the staff, not above or below it. This saves space, and the notation is much more readable. Is this possible? Will it ever happen?

Hi Jarrcor, welcome to the forum

You mean this?

In engraving options set this in the Chords section

and uncheck this

And perhaps hide bar rests in Library→Layout Options→Players.

Thank you.

That’s exactly what I meant

There’s a problem, though
In some staves, the symbols aren’t displayed evenly…

Does changing this under Library→Engraving Options→Chord Symbols→Position help?

Chord Symbols→Position→Vertical Position

-3 1/8

I meant horizonal position. Try Center.

EDIT: Ignore this

Is there a chord later in the second system with a descender? Perhaps the j in a maj7 chord? The chord symbol’s vertical position isn’t measured from the characters’ baseline, so a glyph with a descender will be pushed upward, and if chord symbols are set to align across the system, all of them will be pushed upward.

Ah, sorry, I thought he meant the horizontal positions.
