Cubase 15 Pro latest version on my PC Laptop using Chord Track…
I just started to experiment with the Chord Pads and Chord Track a short time ago. It has some very good variations of the chords. My issue is that when I look at the MIDI Data in the ‘List View’ I have noticed that there are many, many notes of the same pitch starting on the same beat and pulse. But, in three or four of these instances, the length of the notes are ‘0.0.0.0’. No length at all. I am wondering why this happens. I end up dragging the Chord Midi Track to a new Track and then go through the List Editor and delete all of the ‘0.0.0.0’ length notes.
Has anyone found this in their experience? If so, any ideas why it happens?
For my next project with the Chord Track, I am going to try to write a Logical Editor to try to automate the deletion of those 0.0.0.0 events, it would save a lot of time and eyestrain! LOL.
If you have any suggestions on how the Logical Editor script should be defined to do this, please let me know!
Other than that, a bit of a learning curve for me, but I am enjoying getting to use those chords. Next project, I will try to make the chords on the Chord Pads so that for the Guitar part I can have it use some patterns.
Thank you for your advice and comments on what you have found works best for you.
How was the MIDI you are looking at in the MIDI Part actually created/generated? Perhaps some screenshots of what you are seeing would also be helpful.
I have been directly entering the chords on the track manually rather than using the chord pads. I will generate a couple of screenshots tomorrow and upload them. Thanks so much for responding.
On this shot, each space on the right is a Zero length event. These zero length events are all on the same note, at least two or more instances of the same note at each event. However, this appears on many different notes, all being triggered at the same time bit not hear do to their zero lengths. The MIDI also played sluggishly whenever it encountered so many multiple but zero length events.
On this one, it is very hard to see, but at the beginning of Bar 9 you can just see a sliver of a Note C1 event of Zero length…I move the note event to the right so that it uncovers that small sliver of the duplicate event
These shots are from my main piano chord track, and are numerous throughout the whole track. I tried to delete doubles and to delete overlaps, but those zero length events don’t get deleted.
I’m not sure if anyone else has ever run into this.
Sorry, I was tied up and didn’t have a chance to answer more fully.
My workflow is to create the usual Chord Track and then use the pencil tool to insert an ‘X’ where the chord will be. Then, I change to the arrow tool, double-click on the ‘X’ and then use the chord box that opens with all of the chords, tensions, etc. and then choose which one I want. Once I am happy with the chord track, I create the MIDI from the chord track. Then to edit, I copy that midi track to a fresh track and use it to fine tune what changes I would like to make. However, the ‘0.0.0.0.’ length events are in the original Chords to MIDI conversion as well. So, I’m not sure what I might be doing wrong, or why those ‘0.0.0.0’ events are happening. Looking in the Key Editor you just see the small sliver of where the zero event is, but to make sure to get it, I end up going into the MIDI List view and then looking for any of the ‘0.0.0.0’ events to delete them.
It is time consuming, but so far, it seems the best way to get rid of them without having to move the note on top of them and then move the note back.
Again, I am fairly new to using the Chord Track, so I am still learning…
What happens if you just drag the chords directly from the Chord Track to the MIDI track instead of using Chords to MIDI? Do you still see the ‘0.0.0.0.’ length events?
I’m not sure what you mean by copying the MIDI to a “fresh track.” Isn’t the MIDI track already empty before you add the chords to it?
Also, for deleting those extra events (not that it’s the real solution to the issue), you may be able to use this preset:
Thank you so much for all of your follow up. I will be working with this again in the next couple of hours and will try that Logical Editor set up as well!
I am also going to start a new Project from scratch and see what happens with that, I will look for any of those duplicate events with a zero time length.
I will get back to you with my results later today.
So after doing what you suggest, I have done a Project experiment and on one track, I use the 'Project/Chord Track/Chords to MIDI and the ‘0.0.0.0’ Events were on the new track. However, when I opened a new MIDI Track and selected the chords on the Chord Track and dragged that to the new MIDI part there were no ‘0.0.0.0’ Events! Awesome! I guess from here on in, I will not use the ‘Chords to MIDI’ option, and I will just drage the chord track to a new MIDI Track.
As far as the Logical Editor Presets go, I don’t seem to have the ‘Parts & Events’ choice at all…I will investigate this further, but, thanks so much to everyone for helping to solve my problem! This is the Solution!
