how can I obtain the highlighted vertical alignment for a chord split between different voices?

In Engrave Mode in the lower panel/ note spacing, you can adjust the X column to a minus number, or nudge it manually as well.
Or try swapping the voice order:
You can also look in Library > Notation Options > Voices, for per-flow defaults for how notes should be ordered in various contexts.

Hey Lillie,
I am running on V4, so this may not be true for V5, but some of the default voice ordering options (specifically handling dots) only apply to unisons in multiple voices, not 2nds, which often have the same ordering issue.
It is usually better (or at least more compact) to have the voice with the dot on the right.
I found I can set proper voice index in Engrave mode by using the “Voice column index” in “Notes and Rests” tab, it works like a charm.
