I have a large production I completed (Cubase Pro 11) that is a 30 minute 20 track project. I want to reuse the track levels/effects/groups I already have on a new project, but I’ll be importing all new stems. I will obviously delete the audio clips as represented in the timeline and reset any automation before getting started. Is there also some cache I need to clear in the project file so the project is no longer referencing all these old audio clips? If so, how do I do that? Is there any way to clear all automation nodes? or do i do that manually on each track?
Open the project;
Remove all the tracks/parts/instruments/FX you don’t want to re-use;
Open the Pool dialog;
Select “Remove Unused Media”;
In the confirmation dialogue MAKE SURE YOU SELECT “REMOVE FROM POOL”!;
Save project as a Template.
Hopefully, someone will confirm this.
Media/Remove Unused Media and Media/Empty Trash will do that.
Use Key Command Automation/Delete All Automation in Project
or alternatively

Thanks very much. And just to be clear, my goal isn’t to delete the unreferenced audio files (they are being referenced in my 1st project file which I’d like to keep intact). I just want to make sure they aren’t causing overhead or eating up memory as I work in this new project.
Of course, you should NOT carry out the preparation and cleanup on the Source (1st) Project, but duplicate it beforehand with File/Back up Project…. Then you can (should) also remove the audio files from the duplicated project and create the template from that project subsequently (File/Save as Template…).
The Source Project remains completely untouched by this method!
Thanks. For my clarification, in “Remove Unused Media” does the word “Remove” mean “delete files” or does it mean “do not reference them in this project file”. Same question for “Remove from Pool”.
First of all, Remove Unused Media (as the name suggests) only affects files that are NOT used in the project!
Step 1 - Remove Unused Media query
1a: Trash (Default) … Files are moved to the Pool’s internal “Trash” location (not moved on disk!)
1b: Remove from Pool … Files are removed from the pool (invisible in pool)
In both cases, the files are not deleted from disk.
Step 2 - Empty Trash query (only after 1a, i.e. if data present in “Trash” location)
2a: Erase (Default) … Files are removed from the pool AND DELETED FROM DISK!
2b: Remove from Pool … Files are removed from the pool, but not deleted from disk
This all worked great. Thanks so much
