My CMC-PD arrived today, and now I see why the naming confusion. The way this Yamaha driver works, the parent “device” is the driver name, so these all just look like ports under a single parent device with the driver name as the name, instead of the device name
This is the behavior you want for something like a Montage where it has the correct parent device relationship.
Or a MOTU 8 in/8 out device
So I’ll need to look into this and see what I can do without breaking these other devices. I’ll need to get another different CMC as well, it appears

Trying the fix, but I get a missing config error when trying to save the names in the Windows midi settings app.
There’s a huge banner on the main page of the MIDI Settings app that was begging for your attention to finish setting up, create a config file, etc.

Thanks Pete! Got them working!
Awesome. I will need to revisit these and the naming algorithm to see if there’s something reasonable I can do to prevent this issue from happening in the first place.
My second CMC has been ordered so I have multiple to test.

The part where you create a config file?
Was there an error? Anything you remember seeing?

No, this was the prep stage (so 1.3 if you like) - I just didn’t see any midi at all in the midi monitor
Got the same issue…i’ve tried everything…same controllers as yours. Did the procedure too with Midi Settings and renamed the 3 controllers…the first only that i plug works…the others produce midi and just have the little service light on top right…damn
no i have to shut up …after rebooting it worked !!! ohhh thank you so much!!!
Cool. Glad you got it working.

I got it to work with all my 9 CMC-controllers
. Good work with the midi settings app.
Will this be a standard app for windows 11 or need to know only?
Thanks. It can’t go in-box in its current form, but I will work to get it and the MIDI Console in the Store under our official MSFT account so it is signed and has more robust updating. Still needs a bunch of work until then, so for now, it will be available through About Windows MIDI Services - Windows MIDI Services

Thank you…I have CC121 which was recognized by Cubase15, and CMC QC and CMC TP, which failed. I downloaded and executed the Windows Midi app, renamed my CMC’s custom port names as described above (without the numbers at the beginning of a name because I only have one of each)…it worked…Assign functions to programmable buttons, and ready
Got the CMC series working again, oct 2026 WIN11, I have added the links for dlding drivers and screenshots here: CMC-FD on Cubase 15 - #26 by SoundForSoul
