Is it true that the CMC series no longer works with Cubase 15?
They worked perfectly fine with Cubase 14.
When I contacted Yamaha, I was told:
“Support for the CMC series, including the CMC-PD, has already ended.”
However, I find this stance questionable.
If the end of support is the reason they no longer function, then for Cubase versions released after 2022,
Steinberg should clearly and prominently state on their website that “The operation of the Steinberg CMC series is not guaranteed.”
Another issue:
The Windows 11 shortcut keys
Shift + Win + →
Shift + Win + ←
Win + ↑
behave incorrectly only in Cubase 15, causing abnormal window movement across multiple monitors.
This problem does not occur in Cubase 14 or in any other application on the same system.
Even though the issue is reproducible, Yamaha says that “no such behavior has been confirmed.”
I believe many users work with multi-monitor setups (I use 3 displays),
so I would like to ask:
Is anyone else experiencing this issue with Cubase 15?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Reco29, thank you very much.
So it seems that only the CMC-PD has stopped working.
It’s strange because the buttons on the CC121 that perform the same PD functions still work without any issues.
I wonder why only the CMC-PD was left unsupported.
May I ask if your test was done specifically on Cubase 15?
My setup consists of three monitors: 27" on the left, 30" in the center, and 27" on the right.
In Cubase 14, moving a window from a 27" display to the 30" display keeps the window at full size, and everything works correctly.
All other applications behave normally as well.
However, in Cubase 15, I’m seeing the following issues:
The window only moves between two monitors
The window suddenly becomes smaller
Changing the order of → ← ⇅ produces inconsistent behavior
Do you experience any of these symptoms in your environment?
Reco29, I’m sorry.
I had completely assumed that you were talking about PD.
“Has it been confirmed somewhere that, aside from the CMC FD, the other CMCs are functioning normally?”
Is this reported anywhere?
However, my PD does not work.
What you mentioned in How I fixed my broken CMC TP (Other CMC may apply) was very helpful,
but in my case, Cubase 14 works without any problem, so I don’t think it applies here.
However,
“Most of the CMC use the same circuit board. The difference is that some of the components are arranged differently. They all use the same microcontroller with the same old brittle solder.”
This, like what you mentioned—“It has been confirmed that the CMC FD does not work with Cubase 15 on Win 10/11. The other CMCs function normally.”—was extremely helpful.
I can’t find the thread but I remember that the CMC-FD was the only controller not working with Cubase 15 on a Windows rig.
The behaviour on Mac can be troublesome depending on the specific OS.
Have you tried another USB port?
Have you checked the cable and the connection underneath your controller?
Do the lights light up on your controller?
If your recollection is correct, Reco29, that would be wonderful.
I have already tried a different USB port,
and I also checked the cable and the connection on the underside of the controller.
Of course, the controller’s lights are turning on.
Considering that Cubase 14 works without any issues,
it seems increasingly likely that Cubase 15 is the cause,
especially since the operation may become unstable depending on the OS.
P.S.
As you mentioned, it’s certainly not ideal to discuss two different matters in a single thread.
My 5 displays are all set with a resolution of 2560 x1920.
When I set one of the displays on a higher resolution (4K)
I get the same behavior as in your video
Thank you, delta. In my case, I use three displays: one at 2560×1440 and two at 1920×1200. As you mentioned, it seems to be related to the resolution. However, when I change the Maximize button (□) to the Restore button (❐), Cubase 15 behaves the same way as Cubase 14.
Are you referring to the monitor setup, or to the CMC series? If you are talking about the monitors, it seems that there are no problems when multiple displays are the same size and have the same resolution. If you mean the CMC series, my Cubase 15 also shows “Version 15.0.5 Build 121 (x64).” If CMC PD is working correctly on your system, that is very encouraging to hear.
With “Version 15.0.6 Build 139 (x64),” the CMC PD is now supported.
However, the monitor issue still remains unchanged…
That said, since the monitor functions rely on standard Windows shortcut keys, I believe it will be easy to fix by reverting a certain part of the command to its previous form.
So it feels like it’s only a matter of time before this problem is resolved.
Thank you, Tob_ii.
It seems that the behavior of the Maximize button (□) and the Restore button (❐) may be related to this issue.
When I move the window using the Restore button (❐), Cubase 15 works normally, just like Cubase 14.
However, when I press the Maximize button (□) and move the window while it is maximized, the problem occurs.
Another possible factor is the number of displays connected.
There may be issues when three or more monitors are used.
delta mentioned that he uses five monitors, and the problem appears when one of them is set to 4K.
