Coloring tool behavior

one quite annoying behavior when colorizing parts or trcks:

having a split arrange window: when i color in the top part of the window, any track or part in the lower separate part of the window changes color too. which leads to having to undo the unwanted color change.

the behavior should only apply to the part or clip or track in the split part i am working in.

Yes, that’s the way it works here - only selected elements are coloured.
Does this happen in every project?
Have you tried to temporarily start a project with preferences disabled (hold down Ctrl(Cmd)/Alt(Option)/Shift during launch of Cubase)?

Which Cubase version do you use?
Which OS?

i consider it a workflow flaw that is not conducive or well conceived.

when i am operating in the upper pane of the split i do NOT want the items in the lower pane being affected. that is impossible! because either a clip or a track is ALWAYS selected in the lower pane. so i colorize a top item and then have to go in the lower pane and change the color back to what it was BEFORE i changed the top item (and vice versa of course) 2 steps forward….one step back!! clumsy!

this behavior is bugging me since all previous versions of C15

That’s not correct. If you click on an empty spot anywhere in a split pane all objects will be deselected in that area. If you click on a track, all remaining tracks are deselected in both split panes.

If you just want to colour a single track and nothing else
Route 1
-hold down Ctrl (Cmd) and click here

-you’ll see the colour palette and only this single track and its objects will change its colour no matter if other tracks and their objects are selected or not.

Route 2
-you will get the same result by holding Alt(Option) and clicking on the name in the track inspector
grafik

Route 3
-same result by clicking on the name of a channel in the lower mixer zone in the mixer window

If you want to colour multiple tracks/objects or specific objects only
-deselect all objects in the project window by clicking on an empty space in both panes, first.
-afterwards, you can decide which tracks/objects you want to colour by selecting them.
=> this time, you would use the regular colour tool from the bar

Also good to know
If you change the colour of a track then all its objects will take on that colour. With one excemption: if an object has been given a dedicated colour at one point then it will keep this color and not follow the track’s colour. If you want to undo this behaviour select these events (or all events on a track by holding shift and doubleclicking on the first object). Now, open the regular colour tool and use the reset option you’ll find below.

Does it not work like that on your system?

thanks Reco29.

Maybe consider marking Reco29’s answer as the solution rather than your own response - while it doesn’t matter in The Grand Scheme of Things, it’s a nice thing to do.
