Combining base switches - con sord + pizz

Hi,

Still learning Dorico and trying to work with expression maps and playing techniques and would like to understand how to accomplish the following, which is from the beginning of Sibelius’s  Valse Triste.

Strings are to be con sordino + pizz which is fine, but when I switch to arco 4 bars later, the playback technique becomes Natural rather than reverting to con sordino.

Is there any way to revert to con sordino automatically or do I have to keep specifying it every time I switch between pizz & arco?

Or do I have to create a new playback technique?

If arco jumps back to non CS arco (so it actually works as the natural command) rather than what it should do maintain CS but abandon pizz, you could activate independent voice playback and define your whole CS part as separate voice linked to your CS samples.

Personally I have to do that because the CS and non CS samples are in different libraries but it should also work if you have one library with all articulations in. You should of course only load all CS articulations in the separate voice…

In the end I found it easiest just to keep re-applying the “con sord” Playing Technique and hiding it. Minor annoyance but effective.

Have you experimented with Add-on’s?

I use them for things like palm mute, l.v… and other techniques for guitars. I can have a Base Switch to choose which guitar and then the Add-on’s come and go, with no change to the Base Switch.
