Music that moves.
This is a picture of a protein-folding solution. It seems the developers have solved a major nanotechnology obstacle plaguing science for a century and will be releasing that feature into Dorico within a week!
Thanks for posting these excellent visuals, David - they really have brought a smile to my face. ![]()
lol ⦠been done. I have a Moog Theramin ⦠oh wait, it doesnāt have MIDI out though. Doh ā¦
I should note that Presonus StudioOne is probably the most direct competition to Cubase. Presonus promotes PreSonus Sphere Workspaces, which is a combination backup & collaboration framework. It seems a lot like VST Assist.
There has been a lot of discussion on the Cubase section of the forum about how vendors are eager to generate more of their revenue through subscriptions. Presonus Sphere is a subscription service, FWIW.
I still donāt see a high value use of this kind of feature with Dorico unless the cloud would allow collaborators to have access to Dorico flows they could check out and check back in after some revisions.
The VST Assist / Sphere style of collaboration is really suited more for people who want to have friends contribute instrumental tracks to a recording project. For example, I might have a funk tune and really want to have a heavyweight funk bass player do that track.
As these features stand today, they are only slightly more useful than having a DropBox or Google Drive account. But maybe Steinberg is ready to take the next step on collaboration.
+1 to that.!
Yes, thanks @David_Maddux
I hope the Dev Team is enjoying all this conjecture!
Exactly my thoughts!
My guess: a feature that allows the content of the music to move fluidly between Steinberg apps like Cubase and dorico
The big flagship feature of version 4.0 was the Key Editor. Since it was introduced I have found a tiny bit of use for it in exactly one project, and not even one I was getting paid for. If the tagline āmusic that movesā is a clue to whatās new, whether itās video export, Cubase compatibility or choreo notation, I personally canāt bother to get excited about this update when thatās where they decided to spend all development effort at the expense of, yāknow, non-moving things like notation and engraving.
since it was introduced, Iāve found incessant use for it in all my projects. Perhaps thatās because I compose music, not engrave it. We all have different needs and the first two Dorico versions at any rate were definitely more weighted towards engraving and publishing which made them of relatively little use for me. Since then, I think Dorico is starting to get the balance right. There are many of us who would like a combination of comprehensive playback and notation features in one package.
Bingo! Dorico has many customers. The key editor has been a game changer for those of use who produce music for non musicians who want to hear it and not see it. Orchestraās are expensive ya know.
Yeah but I talk about above how that would probably need corresponding releases from Cubase/Nuendo to support it, unless thereās already an API Iām not aware of. Those camps are quiet at the moment.
STOP IT, stop it I canāt take it any more <sob ā¦> just PLEASE tell us!!
Putting out the teaser a week in advance is cruel, just cruel ā¦
Iām not sure itās entirely fair to state āall development effortā here.
We donāt know how much of the Dorico teamās resources are allotted to which aspects of the program.
I doubt that the exact same people who are tasked with Doricoās advanced engraving functions are the same who work on its playback features, or its DAW features.
How about we wait and see?
Sometimes, things we 'd like to see fixed get included in tiny incremental updates along the way, unlike certain other programs that ONLY release āmajor updatesā, and even then at widely spaced intervals⦠and they STILL manage to not include bug fixes or engraving improvements.
I may not have everything I want/need quite yet from Dorico, but I trust in the development team.
Letās wait and see what this upgrade is. Itās probably NOT āversion 5ā of Dorico. At least, I donāt think so. But Iām no better placed than anyone else to hazard a guess.
Thank you for the new version with its moving audio presentation.
Donāt. Itās hilarious! (and beautiful)
No, donāt! Your piccys are great! (they remind me of the screens on pin-ball machines of yesteryear)
And Iād add, " Banksy, eat your heart out!"
You know they are good at coming out with something new and completely non obvious for these big releases, do we really have any hope of figuring it out beforehand?
